Jerzy Marchwiński
Highly Esteemed
Professor,
Please accept my congratulations and
cordial wishes on the grand anniversary of your birthday.
Throughout many decades of your rich -
and truly Renaissance - an activity for the benefit of Polish culture, you have
contributed to the international prestige of our music. The masterful concerts
you gave to music lovers in renowned Polish and international concert halls
worldwide, often partnering with top-class soloists including first of all your
esteemed wife, Maestra Ewa Podleś and artists such as Wanda Wiłkomirska
and Konstanty Andrzej Kulka has become a memorable part of the history of
Polish music of recent decades. We remember how your creative approach to
well-known masterpieces with established performing traditions made them sound
surprisingly fresh, delighting the audience with new solutions in timbre
shaping, articulation, agogics or construction of sophisticated texture
structures.
Your numerous performances recorded on
CDs and made for Polish and worldwide radio and television stations are also
truly awesome. The rich repertoire with which you have delighted music lovers
on five continents is both classical and contemporary, always with a
significant share of Polish music. It is with the utmost respect and sincere
appreciation that we recall the extraordinary emotions accompanying the
concerts of the Masters' Quartet. Your huge piano talent, impeccable taste, and
rich imagination are just a few of the attributes of artistic perfection thanks
to which you have become a great authority for Polish musicians and audiences.
Please accept also the words of
gratitude for your passionate, large-scale and successful teaching activities.
As a pupil of Professor Maria Wiłkomirska and Professor Kiejstut Bacewicz who
is considered to be the leading architect of Polish chamber music and the
patron of the Music Academy in Łódź, you had taught a master class at your home
university, the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw for many years.
Your numerous, outstanding graduates have successfully passed on your ideas to
the next generation of pianists. Last, but not least, one should also mention
your invaluable, unique in Europe publications on the art of partnership in
music, a topic of fundamental importance to the development of musical culture.
Maestro, please accept my sincere wishes for much more professional
successes and happiness in your personal life.
Respectfully
yours,

Highly Esteemed Mr. Minister,
Your unexpected, the beautiful letter which I received on the eve of my eighty-fifth birthday was
truly moving and brought me a lot of joy.
I see it also as
the official culmination of my modest efforts in being a fair servant of the
Art which in my view seems to be the most extraordinary fruit of human Spirit.
Throughout all
the hardships and turmoil of life I have been always true to the wisdom of
Hippocratic adage Ars longa, vita brevis.
With thanks and
best wishes for successful New Year 2020
I remain,
